“We went for a walk in Battersea Park on Tuesday afternoon with one of my English pupils, Nina, aged 11, her 8 year old brother and her mother, plus my daughter. They all made him feel very welcome and Gleb was marvellous, chatty and sociable with everyone. On Wednesday, I took him to Stamford Bridge, the home of Chelsea Football Club, for a tour of the stadium. It was pouring with rain, but we had lots of fun and Gleb was suitably impressed. On Thursday, Nina came over again in the afternoon and we went to the zoo in Battersea Park which was a huge success. Gleb obviously loves animals and chatted easily with me and Nina. That evening, two Russian friends and my sister came for supper and he was very relaxed and chatted with everyone.

On Friday afternoon, I took him shopping to buy a present for his mother. We went to a number of shops, but ended up in Partridge’s in the Kings Road, where he chose what he wanted and paid for it by himself, with no help from me. On Friday evening, I took him to a small ‘race night’ fundraising dinner I had helped to organise. We arrived early to help set up and Gleb was terrific, blowing up balloons and helping with the tables. He seemed to really enjoy himself and the 50 or so guests were very impressed with him.

On Saturday morning, I took him rowing in Richmond with my rowing team. Gleb was perfectly at ease with 9 adults, and with a little tuition, rowed for the first hour. He then sat as a passenger for a while, before persuading the cox to allow him to steer the boat, which he duly did – I think that was the highlight of the row for him!

Gleb was a pleasure to have. He worked hard and seemed to enjoy all the expeditions and socialising aspects of his time with me. I do hope we can continue our lessons on Skype and that he will come again to stay.”

While this student’s main objective was to improve his English language skills and familiarise himself with London in preparation for UK Sixth Form, our London Hosting programme is entirely bespoke and can be tailored to suit a range of goals from UK school entrance preparation to confidence & resilience-building.
