Creative Writing 11-14

“I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.”
- Albert Einstein -

Overview

Led by English Literature, Oxford University graduate & tutor, Ella, these Creative Writing workshops are aimed at 11-14 year old students. The aim of this 10 hour course is to encourage young people to write descriptive prose as well as poems and to get into the habit of practising creative writing from a set stimulus. Each day introduces a different stimulus to writing.

Session 1 – Pictures: Scenery and the elements. Metaphors, similes, alliteration, rhyme and repetition

Session 2- Writing from nouns: nouns offered as a stimulus to describe objects

Session 3- Abstract concepts: introduction to imagery

Session 4- Senses and metaphors: how to write in ways that bring the senses alive

Session 5- Personification and a fun final session

By the end of the course, students will have created a detailed piece of writing, bringing their own room alive with personified objects. The course concludes with summarising the techniques learnt together and by creating a group poem.

All courses are available on-demand and can be taken as a one-off session, a weekly series or a 2-5 day intensive.

Good Schools Guide Review 2021

“Bea is extremely reliable and hardworking. She works independently and was always eager to try and find new ways in which to tackle a problem. Indeed, I found her creative spirit quite infectious, as did Elliot who seemed more willing with her to try new and innovative ways to approach book reports, essays and even class presentations.”
